Mika H. Sipponen, D.Sc. (Tech.), is an assistant professor and leads the Sustainable Materials Chemistry (SUSMATCHEM) research group in the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry at Stockholm University (Sweden). Dr. Sipponen obtained his doctoral degree from Aalto University (Finland) in 2015 and worked as research scientist at VTT in 2016. From 2016–2019 he was an Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Researcher in the groups of Prof. Monika Österberg at Aalto University and Prof. Claudia Crestini at Tor Vergata University of Rome (Italy). He also made a short stay in the group of Prof. Yoshihiko Amano at Shinshu University, Nagano (Japan). In addition to fundamental studies on structure and function of sustainable materials, Dr. Sipponen has carried his early exposure to industrially aligned research in the fields of biomass processing and applied biochemistry to his current research programme focusing on the development of lignin‐based functional materials with a current focus on lignin nanoparticles.
